A lot of people like drifting because it sounds and looks cool even if they've never been behind the wheel of a car, but that's why we've got Drift Challenge. There are plenty of movies and shows about people driving cars in hopes of drifting their way to the top. It's usually in the context of winning a race but just being able to pull off a continuous drift is impressive all on its own. That's what makes it a challenge with the roads sometimes arranged in such a way that drifting is encouraged. This is where you get a chance to see how well you can plan a drift.
About Drift Challenge
If driving is dangerous, then drifting is even more dangerous and that's why we rely on video games to experience it safely. This game isn't a drifting simulator, but it does cover the overall feel of drifting and driving. You can look at it as a crash course for seeing the technique play out without having to worry about the car flying off and turning into a fiery wreckage. There's always the chance you'll crash, but the road and barriers are cushioned enough so that it's easy to recover if you want to try again and practice both drifting and driving.
How to Play
Drift Challenge is a 2D top-down driving game about driving a car around the road using the keyboard.
Controls
- Up Arrow - Accelerate
- Down Arrow - Brake
- Left Arrow - Turn Left
- Right Arrow - Turn Right
- Spacebar - Initiate Drift
The game is broken up into levels and the goal of each level is to earn enough drift points and make it to the finish line within a certain amount of time.
When you choose a level, the car will spawn at the starting line and a countdown will begin. At zero, you'll get to start driving with acceleration allowing you to build up speed quite quickly. As you drive along the track, you'll eventually get to an area that is a prime location to start drifting. You're free to go off the track, but note that the car becomes much harder to control and it's more likely that you'll run into barriers.
Making your way through the levels will yield more difficult roads. Hazards like oil spills will start to appear which can cause your car to spin out or lose speed. If you feel the run is over, you can always restart and try again. You can also choose one of several cars to drive although this is purely cosmetic.
Tips and Tricks
By pressing the spacebar, you can start drifting anywhere to earn points but this should be reserved for when going around bends in the track or drifting around obstacles. Always drift forward since after you get the points, you still have the timer to worry about.
