The path of the hero is a dangerous one full of responsibility and rescuing is at the top of the list as you can infer from Rescue Hero. The enthusiastic cartoon knight is back and this time he's got to save a princess from a number of evil castles. It's unknown how the princess manages to grab the attention of all these dragons and monsters, but since the royal army is so ineffectual, it's up to a lone hero to save her. You'll be able to guide the hero on his journey as he tries to navigate through a series of castles penetrated by pins.
About Rescue Hero
It's unclear where the interest in pin-pulling puzzles came from with only a couple of party games coming to mind. Even so, this game is clearly presenting the pins in a medieval fantasy setting. The hero may be the one who ends up getting all the credit, but it's your brain that allows him to do his job so effectively. The puzzles are straightforward with a very long difficulty curve, though sometimes levels bounce around with their degree of challenge. If you can get used to this after the first few levels, then you'll have a fine time solving all the different pin problems.
How to Play
Rescue Hero is a 2D puzzle game about pulling pins to help a hero through his trials using the mouse. By moving the cursor to the ring of a pin, click and hold the Left Mouse Button and then drag the cursor to pull it out. You can also simulate swiping to do things like cut ropes by holding the Left Mouse Button and dragging the cursor across the thing you want to cut. The goal of each level is to help the hero achieve the listed objective.
Each level begins with the hero spawning in a random part of the castle. There will be pins inserted throughout with act as walls and platforms to support characters and assets. The hero will have to achieve one of several goals: Defeat all enemies, get the treasure, or save the princess.
The hero begins unarmed and so will need to get his hands on a weapon in order to confront enemies. Enemies can also be dealt with by dropping objects on them or getting them to fight each other. Some enemies like dragons can't be fought and need to be dealt with in other ways. The treasure can take the form of mixed valuables or a treasure chest which is vulnerable to lava. The princess will be trapped in a part of the castle and is vulnerable to lava, falling objects, and enemies. To complete each objective, you need to pull the pins to create a safe path for the hero to follow to get what he needs or deal with the threats by moving elements around. If the hero or princess is harmed or the treasure is destroyed, you'll need to retry the level.
Completing levels will earn you gold and rescuing the princess will get you egg points. These can be spent on the main menu for new skins, to build up your kingdom, and to hatch different types of pets.
Tips and Tricks
The puzzles are small and contained so careful observation will easily reveal the solution after a few moments. The main thing is to make sure that you pull pins in the right order so that you don't end up in a losing situation.
